House of Tibet Kitchen
Skip the beaten path and try the family-owned House of Tibet Kitchen, Massachusetts’ first Tibetan restaurant. Very vegetarian friendly, Tibetan cuisine borrows liberally from its Indian and Chinese neighbors (think curry and soy). Delicious momo, or stuffed dumplings, are a perfect starter or a meal in themselves (appetizer $6.50; entree $9.50-14.50). Some of the dishes are a bit bland, but spicy stir fries like the sha logopatsel (a meat dish with curried potatoes) are quite good. Entrees come with tena thupka (lentil soup) and a fluffy Tibetan roll. Wash it down with kushu changkul (hot apple cider with cottage cheese, which is better than it sounds; $2.50) or cha ngamo, a tea and yak butter concoction reminiscent of Indian chai ($1.50). A festive weekend brunch is held during the month following Tibetan New Year (usually in Mar.).
