Frequently Asked Questions

How should I go about filling out employment forms?
Please come to our office at 67 Mount Auburn Street (second floor) between 9am and 5pm to fill out your brief employment information. You will need to bring:

  • Passport or Social Security Card and Driver's License
  • Bank Account and Routing Numbers (for direct deposit)

We will then give you access to our database and explain the simple process so you can review and sign up for jobs!

Should the employer pay me directly?
The employer should not pay you directly for your work, although he or she may give you a tip. Please note that we cannot bill tips; the employer must tip you directly at the time of service.

What experience is necessary for bartending job openings?
Bartending jobs require that you be knowledgable about and confident with tending a full bar. Jobs that mention TIPS certification require you to have completed an approved TIPS training program such as the Harvard Bartending Course. Generally, the Harvard Bartending Course is highly recommended as an introduction to the important skills needed for bartending.

What should I bring to work?
Normally, you should not need to bring anything to work. The employer will provide any supplies that you will need. For some bartending jobs we can provide you with a bartending kit, should the employer request it.

What should I wear to work?
For most jobs, you should wear standard business attire: a shirt and tie for men and a skirt or slacks and a blouse for women. For bartending jobs, you should wear a black bottom and a white top unless otherwise stated. For moving jobs or outdoor work, wear comfortable clothes that can get damaged.

What if I can no longer work a certain job?
When you sign up for a job opening, you enter into a contract to complete the work requested at the agreed time and place. If you cannot work at the time you originally scheduled, you must find another student to replace you. If you are unable to find someone to replace you, please get in touch with us.

Does Harvard Student Resources carry employment insurance?
Yes, HSR carries insurance to cover its employees.

How will I be paid?
You will be paid by HSR via direct deposit to your bank account. You will set up direct deposit payments after you complete your employment eligibility verification forms at the HSR office.
