A New Breed of Leaders

The Harvard Student Agencies Summer Leadership Program (SLP) is an intensive two-day event designed to train high school students in the fundamentals of business leadership. Originally held exclusively for Harvard Summer School students, the success of the initial program led to the expansion of this year’s program to allow highly motivated students from other schools to participate. The program targets high school seniors, juniors, and sophomores who wish to enlarge their knowledge on leadership concepts and values.

Facilitated by Harvard College, Business, and Law School students, the program is structured to provide leadership skills relevant both in and outside school. In the past, the program has featured workshops given by the Harvard Student Agencies, the Leadership Institute at Harvard College, the Harvard Law School Program on Negotiations, and the Harvard Business School Social Entrepreneurship Initiative to provide crucial leadership skills to participants.

The SLP will be held on Saturday, July 25th to Sunday, July 26th. The SLP is open to all high school students.

"I had no clue what a social enterprise was before taking this course. After learning the definition of a social enterprise, I was pleasantly surprised to discover how many social enterprises I have in my own community!"

— Mary Witzel, Leadership Program Participant

The interpersonal skills developed through combing case studies and doing team work are useful in learning how to thrive in a business environment. The SLP’s curriculum aims to:

  • develop and enhance the leadership skills necessary to thrive in high school and beyond through collaborative teamwork.
  • produce a new class of leaders: leaders who are concerned with the preservation of ethics and the expansion of social enterprise.
  • facilitate the building of relationships with future leaders on both the secondary school and undergraduate level.
