The following is a short summary of the 2010 SLP curriculum. More details can be found by downloading the booklet here.

Professionalism and Presentation
Consisting of two segments, SLP participants will be trained on how to present themselves professionally in a business setting. First they will be trained on how to write a resume, how to interview for internships and jobs, and how to prepare for for public presentations, etc. Going through an intensive training on proper public speaking and presentational skills, students will be able to translate these skills back to their extracurriculars at school, college interviews and when looking for summer jobs.

Leadership Training
This two part segment will first start with a training on the qualities people look for in a leader and ways to successfully highlight one’s leadership skills. The second segment will then delve into the organizational obstacles that leaders face, present ways of expanding one’s organization and finally end with focusing on team cohesion. SLP participants will be able to take these lessons back to their own organizations and groups in school, while knowing how to approach leadership in college.

Starting your own business
Last year, B-Good founder and owner, Jon Olinto led a session at the SLP about his business model and the success of B-Good. Similarly, this year, the SLP will focus on a local business owner, who has seen recent success in their product. SLP participants will not only get to learn about a successful business model but will also be trained in marketing strategies, business plans, expansion and day to day budgeting.

College Info Sessions, College Admissions and SAT Prep with Harvard College students
SLP Participants will meet admissions officers from various Boston colleges and learn more about the college admissions process from these representatives. Additionally the two other sessions, led by Harvard College students, will focus on the college application process, writing essays and how to prepare for the SAT.

Team Project
Students will be separated into groups to tackle real-world business conflicts in a fun and interactive environment. The team project will require the synthesis of multiple skills, techniques, and approaches. In tackling each scenario, students will have the opportunity to refine their problem solving acumen while being introduced to the fascinating challenge of creating business solutions.
